BASS, RIGHT UNDER THE BOAT

As waters warm this spring, anglers will again begin pounding the banks of
their favorite fishing hole, for that ever-elusive largemouth bass. Many
anglers, suffering from cabin fever, have not wet a hook for months and are
as eager to get bit, as the bass are to bite. And rightfully so, for this is
the time of year when the majority of the lake's bassin' population is in
shallow water practicing the rituals of spawning.
These anxious anglers may be unaware of the many bass, BIG bass, that are
actually right under the boat of the bank-beating angler. These are still
shallow bass, generally in less than 5 feet of water and very catchable. Big,
female bass, not quite ready to move into that 1-2 feet of very shallow water
to spawn. Most anglers that target these often unmolested bass, have several
springtime honey holes all to themselves for weeks at a time during spring.
Hidden spots that lasts for years. That is, if the angler has the patience,
lures and know how.
This takes place each spring, no matter what part of the country you live in,
and its as simple as just backing off away from the bank. Resisting the
temptation of fishing "visible targets" for some offshore, often
untapped Big
Bass action, away from the bank, has its rewards. Just fish with bottom
bumping worms, lizards, plastic crayfish or jig combos. Or fan-cast the area
with shallow to mid-diving jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits and
rattletraps, in water 1-5 feet deep. Right in the middle of the flats,
pockets, cuts and creeks, you normally fish, during spring. That's all there
is to it! Good Luck...fishing away from the bank this spring!
