Written By Reed Montgomery
First of all I want say, “Thank You For Your Prayers and Donations” The responce has been tremendous and without your help we could not have made it through this first journey any cancer-stricken family goes through, during these hard times. With, I’m sure, more hard times to come.
Unless you have actually experienced it, you just cannot understand what the victim, family and close friends all go through daily after the word “Cancer” is unwantingly entered into their lives. When any form of Cancer attacks its next victim it chooses no one in particular especially with so many forms of cancer now having entered our modern day society in so many forms. And above all, you never expect it to happen to you.
But it did and now me and my wife are having to deal with it on a daily basis, waiting on my surgery, now less than two weeks away. So here is an update on my condition, plus other useful information for 2015 for many things in store for you and others!
The year 2014 was a year to remember and I always will. It began as usual with my busiests time of the year during the early Spring in March as owner of Reeds Guide Service visiting every lake in Alabama taking clients bass fishing. Tournament Fishing I did well and placed in www.airportmarinetrails.com Solo Trail events and Summer was just as good.
As Fall approached my wife and I were suffering with her out of work and now, we were without insurance. So we began our search, like others under obamacare, or choose to pay a penalty in 2015 for not having insurance in 2014. But then it got worse, much worse. My health and our situation.
As bills continued to pile up, my wife still out of work, and my business soon slowing down for the cold winter months ahead, we were suddenly taken by surprise. And a sudden change in our lives was about to take place, changing both of our lives forever…and we never even knew it was coming.
* Over 12,000 words for Wintertime Bass Fishing Alabama’s Lakes - For my readers. As you will see in the recent links found on my website home page at ww.fishingalabama.com On November 18 2014 I sat down and actually wrote over 12,000 Wintertime Fishing Tips featuring bass fishing info for most of Alabama’s Lakes. It also included an article, “Topwater Bass Fishing During the Winter Season.”
Included was info for the upcoming 2015 Birmingham Boat Show for four days Thursday - Sunday on January 22-25 2015 and My, “Reed Montgomery’s 14th Annual Kids Fishing Show” to be held (for free!) at 2 p.m. on that Saturday, January 24 2015 at this very popular boat show! See: www.birminghamboatshow.com and see info on where to send your donations for this kids show as well!
But at the time I was not feeling well and it was all I could do to finish writing it.
* Please Read This! - On November 26 of 2014, these were the first few words, of my cry for your help with your prayers and needed donations for my now diagnosed pancreatic cancer. It explains my suddenly turning yellow with jaundice in mid November and then a stint operation in my digestive tract and afterwards, the discovery of cancer of my pancreas. Calling for another surgery soon…
Soon the bills started piling in from my now several visits to the emergency room, doctors, surgery, the hospital and anesthesia services. Just to name a few. In addition, no sleep for either me or my wife. My stomach now constantly hurting every day and night (from then until now), and both of us anxiously waiting for a possible surgery date, real soon.
Plus, still with no income for either of us and no insurance now with no way of getting any insurance until after January 1 2015.
But close friends and family stepped up and their prayers and donations helped us tremendously! Airport Marine organized a benefit bass tourmant held on Saturday out of Beeswax Creek on December 13 2014 on Alabama’s Lay lake! So we both just held on and waited. Like a lot of cancer victims have to do, before an actual surgery date is scheduled.
* Yes, Reeds Guide Service is Still in Business! - On December 6, one week before the Airport Marine sponsored “Reed Montgomery Benefit Bass Tournament” I had to assure readers and clients for 2015 that I was still in business! I have three guides that can take my place until I can schedule fishing trips for the Spring of 2015.
* Airport Marine Benefit Bass Tournament For Reed Montgomery on
Lay Lake December 13 2104 - On December 20 I gave an update. After this benefit bass tournament my wife and I had some very needed relief after over a month of anguish. The tournamnet sponsors, Ken Hollis owner of Airport Marine and various donations taken up for me and my wifes benefit, together raised over $5000.00!
It could not have came at a better time for both of us. Especially on my wifes birthday and what a wonderful Christmas Gift! I thank all of you for your caring, your prayers and your donations! On that link you will also see Birmingham Boat Show info and my kids show info as well!
* Update: Reed Montgomery’s Pancreatic Cancer Surgery Tuesday, January 2015. Well, by now you know all the facts. My surgery is planned for Tuesday morning Jan. 20 2015 at Baptist Princeton Medical Center in the West End section of Birmingham. After two months of waiting and now my healing up the next few weeks will be next.
Along with your prayers and donations and my life in Gods hands, I’ll get through this somehow. We are still very much in need of help with bills now close to $40,000. Any donations can be sent directly to Reed Montgomery 141 Reese Drive Alabaster, Alabama 35007.
Or you can go to www. youcaring.com and type in the search words, Reed Montgomery. Or click on this direct link posted by my wife; www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/medical-help-for-my-husband/259037 for credit card, tax free donations.
Still, my booth at the Birmingham Boat Show and my Kids Fishing Show for 2015 will still go on without me, but only with the help of family and close friends! So make plans to be there! Keep us in your prayers, it costs nothing to pray! There will be donation buckets there too!
